Dan and Corrine O’Grady had an entrepreneurial spirit from the ‘get go’. They both started with jobs; Dan as an electrician and Corrine as a medical assistant.

But they wanted their own business and that was the dream goal. Fortunately their job incomes gave them the freedom they needed to get their own business up and running. They both have a passion for helping others meet their needs and dreams.

So in 1992 they began creating their own business model.

As a team they started out with a variety of offerings:

• Custom sawmilling

• Custom-cutting of cedar posts, rails and firewood

• Building septic systems

• Customer specific projects

The business grew to the stage where Dan and Corrine quit their jobs and made Dan O’Grady Equipment their full time passion. They purchased additional excavation equipment and hired employees to further meet their customers’ needs.

On the personal side they have a family of three sons, Brad, Chris and Brent. The boys grew up working on the O’Grady team, either on a part time or full time basis.

As a family they also own and operate the farm where they live. They raise beef cattle and sheep as well as cash cropping of corn, soybeans, wheat, buckwheat and hay.


A bit of history - our barge

They also gained valuable experience for ten years, by adding a barge service to their business endeavours. That work took place on the islands in the Rideau Canal System. They no longer operate the barge business so they can concentrate exclusively on their core excavation business.

Their business expansion meant a key change was necessary to better serve their clients. Corrine has always loved the physical on-site work with Dan. That team approach is how their business initially grew. However, now Corrine has a more important role to play.

Corrine is now the central hub of the business’s daily administration. She’s responsible for managing the business, office and the exceptional customer service that they take pride in offering to all their clients.

Dan’s role is to co-ordinate and work on customer projects. He manages and works with the team on site and keeps the equipment up and running on every operation.

Today Dan, Corrine and their son Brent work the business on a daily basis. The two older sons work as heavy equipment mechanics elsewhere, but still help out on a part time basis, as needed. Two employees, Jeff and Clare round out the team.
